We had packs full of woolly clothes and down sleeping bags with no place to go. The Indian HImalayas was an obvious choice but has also been affected by the earthquake. After a few tiger beers a new plan was cooked up to go back to Laos. We knew about trekking opportunities up North but ran out of visa last time. After exhausting attempts to get tickets on (wouldn't you know it) Thai May Day holiday we had the all night and half the next day trip to the Friendship Bridge to get visas, lining up with many others going through a confusing official process to finally get our Lao visa. Back to one of the quietest Capitals in Asia, Vientiane (sandalwood city) on a bend on the Mekong, 1000 years old. With tree lined streets, temples with many architectural influences notably French. We found It easy to come back.
