Feeling pleased at securing 1st and 2nd seats to LP the day before with a special trip out to the station 10 kms out of town meant the best seats in the no frills bus leaving at 6.30am avoiding all the other backpackers. Arriving on the tuk tuk at 6.15, leaving at 6.45 seemed like a dream apart from the quoted tuk tuk price turning into thai baht worth heaps more than local lak. With an indignant twist we threw down the money and rushed into the station with the driver calling but not following. Whew. Next was ousting the monk from my seats and we were off. A wonderful trip (as it could possibly be in a bus that ancient) all 10 hours of it with great views and leg room.
The numbers of tourists at LP was off putting but the beauty of the leafy streets and arcitecture more than made up for it. LP is famous for the daily alms given to the Buddist monks by the local people and the colour of the saffron robes was a colourful spectacle.
